Mutual recognition between AEEBC members

Agreement on mutual recognition of membership
- between Association of Building Engineers (ABE) UK and Konstruktørforeningen (KF) Denmark.

By Jacob Ravn Thomsen, constructing architect MAK

Recognition and mobility through membership has been reinforced through membership of ABE and KF as the President of KF, Gert Johansen, and the Vice-President of ABE, Beryl Menzies, have signed an agreement of collaboration and mutual support.  The agreement was formalised at the office of KF in Copenhagen 17 September 2008.

The agreement provides support for Danish constructing architects within the UK, and to certain degree the Middle and Far East due to membership of ABE and their representation in Hong Kong and Malaysia. At the same time support is available for members of ABE work within Denmark, as they are able to show that they have met and have documentary evidence needed to prove their academic achievements and experience to an employer in a different country.

The agreement is based on agreement and trust between the two organisations linked to the recognition of each other’s membership criteria as linked to qualifications and experience.

Both the ABE and KF are members of the pan-European group AEEBC (Association of European Building Surveyors and Construction Experts) who are currently working to facilitate free movement of 350.000 building professionals within Europe and beyond. Read more about AEEBC on www.aeebc.org.
